The nation’s love affair with curry is waning, as Chinese takes over as the nation’s favourite ethnic cuisine, with spring rolls topping the chart of dishes.
Earlier this year a report revealed 83% of Brits enjoy eating Chinese food, compared to 71% who enjoy eating Indian. New research commissioned for the launch of Ken Hom’s new Oriental range for Tesco, revealed the nation now eat Chinese food more regularly than Indian*.
The research topples Tikka Massala as the nations favourite dish, with spring rolls, special fried rice and crispy duck coming out top of the menu. However, despite Brits’ enthusiasm for Chinese, just 38% know how to use chopsticks correctly and only 40% own a pair.
To help the nation master the art of chop sticks and enjoy an authentic Chinese experience, Ken Hom has devised a simple 3 step guide to help out even the most clumsy of Chinese food fans. To see him demonstrate go to www.youtube.com/kenhomtescochopsticks
Tescos commented, "Our sales figures certainly support the fact that oriental food is currently the nations’ favourite. 53% of our customers buy the cuisine compared to 43% for Indian food, and the customer base for Oriental food is growing faster than that of
Indian. The new Ken Hom range of delicious ready to eat oriental dishes will be a treat for
Chinese food fans and help keep it the nations favourite".
Ken Hom, creator of the new range for Tescos, adds, "I hope my new range of oriental dishes for Tescos, plus my simple guide to using chopsticks, will allow the UK to indulge their passion for Chinese food. The range includes all the nations’ favourite Chinese dishes, and my favourites too!".
The new Ken Hom range for Tescos is available nationwide from today.
